President Obama is thinking about changing the sentencing of convicted drug offenders and issuing pardons to those who qualify. These laws were passed by Congress, which legislates while the president executes. There is bipartisan support in Congress to fix drug-sentencing guidelines, yet he acts unilaterally.
Immigration reform, the Dream Act, which Congress rejected, the commerce clause, the changes in Obamacare law, the delay of the employer mandate, delay of taxes that were written into law — the president must work with Congress, as the Constitution requires. This practice is eroding the rule of law.
As a candidate for president, Obama promised that, if elected, he would rein in the overuse of executive power — yet he is acting like a monarch.
