Boat with five migrants intercepted; unresponsive woman taken to hospital

The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a 23-foot boat Monday night with five migrants on board about 10 miles off shore, according to Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss.

One woman later became unresponsive while waiting on board the Coast Guard ship and was taken by boat to the Miami Beach Coast Guard Base, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Doss said it was not clear what caused the woman to become unresponsive. The other migrants — Doss said they were of various nationalities — remained on board a Coast Guard ship Tuesday.
