The deliberate targeting of children, women and the elderly in Kansas City on the eve of Passover is a painful reminder to every Jew to remain vigilant of lurking dangers. Without comparison to the losses that a relatively powerless Jewish community suffered less than a century ago, lone wolf and, more often, state-sponsored attacks continue to take the lives of Jews on every continent.
The cowardice of those who target helpless, unarmed children, women and elderly people for murder is beyond comprehension.
Beyond around-the-clock work to ensure the safety of our community centers, schools and places of worship, preventing violence requires our leadership to increase cooperation with law enforcement and others to more actively confront those who celebrate the murder of innocents of any race or faith, for they are the breeding grounds of future bloodshed.
