flyon@MiamiHerald.com

Blanche Ely guard Lance Tejada III was named to the Class 7A all-state first team following a senior season in which he averaged a career-best 23 points per game. The East Carolina signee improved his scoring average from 12 points for the Tigers (21-5) this season.

With Tejada leading the charge, Ely advanced to the Class 7A regional semifinals, where its bid for a third consecutive state title was ended by rival Boyd Anderson 61-54.

“I did whatever it took to help my team win,” Tejada said. “I proved I could be a scorer and a passer. I knew I would have to carry a heavy load this season. I had to get in the best shape of my life.”

Boyd Anderson 6-5 guard Rodney Simeon, who helped end the Tigers’ run with a team-high 17 points in the regional semifinals, earned second-team honors.

Simeon averaged 15 points for the Cobras.
