Man lying in the middle of the road near Fort Lauderdale struck, killed by car


A man lying in the middle of the road was struck and killed by a car Wednesday night.

Scott Merrell, 50, died in the 1800 block of State Road 7 in unincorporated Broward near Fort Lauderdale, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

BSO said Merrell “may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs” and was seen by drivers staggering across the street before stumbling and falling.

He was hit at 10:52 p.m.

Carlton Harris was heading north on State Road 7 when he ran over Merrell, BSO said.
