Bike to Work Day, as declared by Miami-Dade County, was April 3. For me, everyday is bike to work day assisted by Miami-Dade Transit. My one hour bicycle/Metrorail commute from the Falls to downtown Coral Gables takes me safely down the M-Path to the Dadeland South Metrorail Station where I board the train. From Dadeland South, I depart the Metrorail at Douglas Road and ride to work. For those rainy days, both the Metrobus and the Trolley have exterior pull down carriers for the bikes,
Think about the benefits. Exercise, no sitting in traffic, no gas, no parking and a $4.50 daily commuter cost. Thankfully, I work at the Coral Gables Museum — a LEED certified building that has a shower for those who bike to work. At the Museum, we promote biking through monthly tours, original exhibits and programs. The Museum tours are growing as are all biking related activities in the county, which is as it should be. With our beautiful weather, flat terrain, and growing traffic, everyday should be bike to work day.
