Police: Armed man shot during undercover detail

A man is recovering at a hospital after being shot by a police officer Saturday morning according to police.

Officers with North Miami Beach said they were parked and working a special undercover detail in the 1400 block of NE 159 Street just before 1:30 a.m. when an armed man approached them from a nearby house.

It is not clear, as of Saturday morning, why the man came toward the undercover officers.

Investigators said the man was asked to show his hands, but would not and officers said at some point one officer fired his weapon at the man.

That man was hit twice, police said. He was taken to Ryder Trauma Center where he is in stable condition.
