It only appears near the end of the bill, but it packs a big wallop. That is the section of the Florida Legislature’s bill CS/SB 790 that allows Florida school boards to substitute one credit of computer programming classes for one credit of physical-education classes.
If I were in high school, I would be overjoyed at this proposal. I hated physical education classes. But since then I have learned the value of physical activity in maintaining good health. This move by the Legislature is a step in the wrong direction. Our kids don’t need another reason to skip physical activity.
