After Mayor Philip Levine’s first four months, he has demonstrated a significant change in leadership and vision for Miami Beach. Many voted him into office feeling anyone would be better than the incumbent commissioners giving us more municipal embarrassments.
Now, after helping to focus on long-term tidal threats to storm flooding, he is refreshingly frank about the proposed 50-story behemoth skyscraper on Alton Road at Fifth Street. The new City Commission has backed its November 2013 campaign rhetoric with substantive actions for local sustainability, while rejecting powerful forces to overtax our limited transportation and drainage infrastructure.
