Re the March 27 article Saga incenses, fascinates GOP: As a Cuban-American Republican, I was taken aback by the recent comments attributed to Brian Ballard, a member of Gov. Scott’s campaign finance team, and J.M. Stipanovich, a GOP strategist who ran two campaigns for governor, after the resignation of Mike Fernandez as co-finance chairman for Scott’s campaign.
Fernandez is a prominent Cuban-American Republican who arrived in this country as a penniless political refugee. He was smart enough to figure out how to create an incredible healthcare empire and become a billionaire. He understands the idiosyncrasies and culture of South Florida’s Hispanic community, often the deciding voting bloc in statewide elections, better than any of the governor’s team of advisors, who for the most part, are not native to Florida.
When compared to the homogeneous team of campaign advisers, Fernandez clearly is the smartest person in the room. If these gurus don’t start listening to people like him and continue to insist that they just shut-up, we will be welcoming Charlie Christ back into the governor’s mansion.
