The Florida Memorial University soccer team got a surprise visit during their afternoon scrimmage Wednesday – from soccer star David Beckham.
“I was thrilled to see him in person and here at FMU,” soccer player Francisco Allegro said in a press release.
Beckham first met with University President Roslyn Artis to discuss South Florida and his plans to bring Major League Soccer to the community.
The British soccer icon has been making his rounds across town, including the Miami Children’s Hospital and Oak Grove Park in North Miami.
After Artis met privately with Beckham, the pair went to the soccer field to meet with the team, which is ranked among the best in the Sun Conference. Beckham spoke with the players briefly and posed for pictures.
“It is good for the University and I hope his goodwill efforts help both our University and community,” Fernando Valenzuela, head men and women’s soccer coach, said in a release.
