Overturned tractor causes Turnpike closure near Coconut Creek Parkway

The southbound lanes of the Turnpike, from Sample Road to Commercial Boulevard, were closed Tuesday after a tractor trailer hauling 24 cylinders of compressed hydrogen overturned.

According to the Broward Sheriff's office, the accident, near the Coconut Creek Parkway, happened at about 8:30 a.m.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Deerfield Beach units and BSFR HazMat responded and confirmed that some of the cylinders were leaking. An additional HazMat team from Hollywood was called to assist.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, which could be closed until later in the day.
