The March 9 article Cuban cultural exchange in Key West draws ire from some exiles is interesting. It says that the show has created some upset on the part of some Cuban exiles. It’s high time to change these attitudes.
Cuba is a country without great natural resources, other than nickel in the eastern part of the island and, formerly, sugar, which now is a dead industry. The only true industry in Cuba is tourism, since it’s a beautiful country with some of the best beaches in the world and a varied topography, with small mountains and beautiful valleys and a population eager to develop along new paths.
Why not give Cuba the chance we’ve given China and Vietnam? Let’s quit letting the Cuban-American members of Congress continue to dictate what the United States does; they were elected to serve the American people, not to punish a small country for more than 50 years.
