It’s depressing and hypocritical that Tennessee Titans defensive end Adewale Ojomo — a former University of Miami player — was entrapped in a prostitution sting. The football player was acting responsibly, tending to his physical needs by soliciting another consenting adult. It’s certainly a more responsible way than luring an innocent victim into rape. Although prostitution is illegal, it’s very much a win-win for both involved.
When I read of an athlete accused of rape, a hideous crime, most of the time the worshiped athlete gets off. The facts are twisted around to draw question to the accuser and place blame on the victim, putting her in a no-win and humiliating position.
Many times the victim gives up in despair rather than prosecute to avoid a long, expensive and embarrassing ordeal. Give prostitution laws a second look, and put an end to rapes.
