To be the famous hero or become an infamous villain, Sucker Punch’s standout franchise arrives on the PS4 arrives with inFAMOUS: Second Son. But has the series picked up some new tricks or have the choices between hero and villain become stale?

Story

Set after inFAMOUS 2, Second Son follows Delsin Rowe, a recently awakened conduit (super-powered human), as he fights against the Department of Unified Protection (DUP) in occupied Seattle.

Second Son’s story touches a variety of issues through the eyes of Delsin such as abuse of public power, surveillance and drug trafficking to name a few.

Fans of the series will find plenty of nods to the previous games in the story and new players will be able to get a full experience from the story without playing the previous games.

Gameplay

inFAMOUS’s gameplay combines aspects of action, third-person shooter and open world exploration. Delsin has a broad range of powers including smoke and neon manipulation, each power bringing specific benefits to combat.

At the heart of the gameplay is the karma system. The choices you make, in combat or in story, will change how the story progresses and the powers that you can learn.

Exploring Seattle offers a variety of side-quests and the opportunity to take control of the various parts of Seattle from the DUP. Taking over areas may become a little repetitive but each district will bring a new challenge to compensate.

Graphics

Second Son does an incredible job recreating Seattle as well as demonstrating the PS4 graphical strengths.

From the neon signs spread across Seattle to the smoke effects on every building, Sucker Punch makes every element feel real.

Sucker Punch also makes some very creative choices with the use of the PS4’s controller on stencil spray-painting quests or subtle use of the touchpad in some gameplay mechanics.

Conclusion

inFAMOUS: Second Son delivers. New players and fans alike will find a great story, amazing gameplay and exploration and detailed next-gen graphics. Second Son is a must own of this generation and a great expansion of the inFAMOUS franchise.
