Re the March 14 article Tequesta site controversy will go to mediation: The city of Miami’s Historic Preservation Board was blocked from discussing the downtown Met Square Tequesta site that included an appeal filed by the developer’s attorney for Met Square plans.
Questions should be raised from the public regarding the preservation of this cultural heritage site considered the birthplace of Miami. City commissioners should be leaders rather than followers, yet it appears they have cloaked themselves in legal bantering rather than considering the importance of this previously known archaeologically “sensitive” site.
City commissioners should act to strengthen the creative preservation and cultural heritage process rather than lessen or mitigate it.
