I have asked my county commissioner, Xavier L. Suarez, to vote to maintain local operation of the South Clinic of the Humane Society of Greater Miami and not turn operations over to an out-of-town, for-profit operation, as has been proposed. We need a responsive, locally run clinic providing pet services. What we have now is working, and there is no good reason to change it. Let’s not punish success or reward out-of-town operators who do not have any connection to our community.
Many residents, including my family, have made donations of goods and services to the current clinic. I will not be making donations to a for-profit operation.
