I first met Gov. Reubin Askew as a college freshman when I helped organize students to support of his reelection campaign. I was struck by his kind demeanor, deep humility and ability to empathize with people on issues they cared about most.
Gov. Askew was a leader who always did what he thought was right for the people of Florida. He inspired us all to tackle the tough challenges and taught us the virtue of public service. In an era of political cynicism, elected leaders in Florida (and throughout America) would do well to look to him as an example of the principled leadership that we all deserve.
