Special to the Miami Herald

The Coral Reef softball team’s perfect season came to an end as the Barracudas fell to Plantation American Heritage 8-2 on Friday.

The Patriots scored three runs off four hits in the first inning to take the early lead. They never looked back.

Coral Reef shortstop and FIU commit Kylan Becker drove in a run off a groundout to put the Barracudas on the board in the fourth inning.

The Cudas continued to chip away at the Patriots’ lead with a sacrifice fly by Sarah Ortiz in the fifth inning.

But a multitude of fielding errors, including a collision between the Coral Reef pitcher and catcher, led to three more runs for American Heritage in the sixth inning. Another run in the seventh sealed the win for the Patriots.

Three strikeouts in three shutout innings helped Jenna Goodrich get the win for the Patriots, and Michele Mason took the loss for Coral Reef.
