Growing up in South Florida has allowed me to see the effects of climate change first hand — increasingly severe flooding, the erosion of coral reefs, salt water seeping into fresh water supplies. Car and truck pollution has contributed to climate change, so I’m delighted to see that the Obama administration is moving forward with a new cleaner-gas rule. This rule is an important step to protecting our coastal communities.
However, we can’t stop there. We need to ensure that the EPA takes on the leading cause of climate change: Carbon emissions from new and existing power plants. I urge Florida’s leaders in Washington to support the EPA in limiting global warming from power plants. The Florida that I love depends on it.
