Tiger Woods withdraws from the Honda Classic

Special to the Miami Herald

PALM BEACH GARDENS — Tiger Woods withdrew from the Honda Classic Sunday afternoon after playing 13 holes.

According to officials, a bad back was the reason for his withdrawal.

After shaking hands with playing partner Luke Guthrie, Woods walked away and got into a car with his daughter Sam.

When he called off his round, Woods was 5-over-par for the day and was even-par for the tournament at that point.

Woods' injury puts his appearance in next week's World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship on Doral's Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral in doubt. No announcement was made as to whether Woods would or would not play in the prestigious Doral event.

Woods walking off the course follows another notable walk-off a year ago in the Honda Classic.

In the second round of the 2013 Honda, Rory McIlroy called it quits after eight holes of the second round, blaming it on a toothache.
