We have to pay for libraries

I have watched with interest the supposedly last meeting of the Blue Ribbon Task Force dedicated to retooling the Miami-Dade Public Library System, only to find that another “last” meeting has been added.

This after one meeting was suddenly canceled because of a visit by soccer enthusiast David Beckham.

After much discussion and brainstorming, the good folks on the panel are being asked to return once again to deliver their final report. The task force members are to be commended for giving it their all, but let’s be efficient: I’ll write that last report and we will save paper, too. The library system cannot function efficiently on the budget it now receives.

If the residents of Miami-Dade County want the best library system, and I have every reason to believe that they do, they will have to pay for it.
