MAN TO BE EXECUTED FOR FLORIDA STATE TROOPER'S MURDER
The man who built a bomb that killed a Florida Highway Patrol trooper is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection. Drug trafficker Paul Howell is set to die at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Florida State Prison for the February 1992 murder of Trooper Jimmy Fulford.
JUSTIN BIEBER JAIL VIDEO RELEASE IS EXPECTED
Video of Justin Bieber at a South Florida police station after his January arrest is expected to be made public, with some sensitive parts omitted. Miami-Dade County prosecutors said DVDs of about 10 hours of video will be made public Wednesday afternoon. The video was sought by The Associated Press and other media organizations under Florida's public records law.
VENICE OFFICIALS BALK AT POLICY TO DETER ROBBERIES
The Venice City Council has declined to recommend that banks adopt a "no hats, no hoods, no sunglasses" policy to deter robberies. Some council members expressed concerns that, if enacted as a law, the requirement would have violated the civil rights of those whose religion requires them to wear head garments.
FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI FOOTBALL PLAYER REMAINS HOSPITALIZED AFTER CAR CRASH
Hurricanes football coach Al Golden joined JoJo Nicolas' family and friends Tuesday at the Ryder Trauma Center. Golden says Nicolas is "a big part of our U family and all of us are pulling for him." Nicolas tweeted early Tuesday that he was celebrating his birthday at a South Beach club. Hours later, the car he was driving crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer as he left the beach.
SOUTH FLORIDA POLICE PIN 1990 SLAYING ON EXECUTED MAN
Police in Coral Springs say they have solved a woman's 1990 slaying, with advances in DNA identification pinning the crime on a man executed in 2011 for other killings. Detectives say a new DNA test earlier this month conclusively links Oba Chandler to the strangulation death of 20-year-old Ivelisse Berrious Beguerisse, who never made it home after leaving her job at the Sawgrass Mills Mall on Nov. 27, 1990.
