Miami native to appear in ‘Mixology’

ABC’s new sitcom Mixology is getting buzz for its writing team ( The Hangover’s Jon Lucas and Scott Moor) and its similarity to Friends. But instead of being set in a coffeehouse or apartment, this young cast sets up camp in a bar. Another reason to watch the show debuting at 9:30 Wednesday is Blake Lee, a Palmetto High graduate. He plays resident nerd Tom, who has a tough time meeting women since getting dumped by his fiancée. Lee is cute, and we’re sure he’ll do fine on- and off-screen.

Hooray for .

Who needs the traffic and smog of L.A. when we have red-carpet premieres right here? Catch Palestinian Oscar nominee love story Omar on Friday night at Coral Gables Art Cinema; the film’s stars Adam Bakri and Leem Lubany will be in attendance at the 7 and 10 p.m. screenings as well as at a 9 p.m. Middle Eastern-style reception. $20; 786-385-9689, www.gablescinema.com

Man of action

Sunday morning cartoons just got a little more interesting for Miami Heat fans. Tune in at 8 a.m. to Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. to hear guest star Chris Bosh in action as Heimdall, described as an “all-knowing guardian.” Check listings for Marvel Universe on Disney XD.

Star spotting

Is it any wonder Joe Simpson needed some downtime in SoBe? One daughter, Jessica Simpson, is off shedding pounds for Weight Watchers and tending to two little ones; the other, Ashlee, is planning a wedding to Evan Ross (while her ex Pete Wentz has a baby with gf Meagan Camper). The singing sibs’ dad and ex-manager sure did seem relaxed in beach-side pictures shot by paparazzi the other day. Papa Joe was there with model Jonathan Keith, TMZ reports. The site says the divorced patriarch is apparently helping the Scotsman with his career. “I enjoy working out & staying healthy,” Keith writes on his Facebook page. “If you are focused on something, set your mind to it!”

Valerie Harper: I’m not ‘cancer free’

Sounded too good to be true, and it was: Valerie Harper is not “cancer free,” as Closer Weekly reported. There is no cure for leptomeningeal carcinomatosis — cancer of the membranes around Harper’s brain. The veteran actress says in a statement that the magazine’s reporter misunderstood when she said her most recent full-body scan was clean and that the cancer had not spread.
