Re the Feb. 5 article about school superintendents telling Gov. Rick Scott that school districts need more money: I am aghast that state Sen. Nan Rich politicized the event by saying the “superintendents are right!”
I am disappointed by some superintendents who asked to hike property taxes to increase revenue. These leaders are insensitive to the many students whose parents are unable to afford such an increase.
Gov. Scott’s plan to increase school funding by $542 million adds up to $6,949 per student, good enough. The only thing better would be for Gov. Scott to appoint independent auditors to audit public schools from top to bottom or to ask assistance from priests and nuns to educate these superintendents on how to run good schools with less money.
