Florence, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Turfway Park has announced that its weekend programs, including Friday, have been canceled because of snow and ice. Turfway canceled racing last Saturday and Sunday as well.
"Turfway will cancel racing this weekend due to accumulated snow and ice build-up in the track surface," Turfway Park general manager Chip Bach said. "Since last weekend's cancellations (five races on Sat., Feb. 8, and the entire card on Sun., Feb. 9), temperatures have remained in the teens and near zero overnight, offering no opportunity for the surface to thaw."
The track's Director of Racing Tyler Picklesimer said Turfway Park will make up some of the lost races by picking up an optional day on Sunday, March 2, and by carding 11 races instead of nine through the end of the meet if entries support the expansion.
Aqueduct Racetrack also canceled its Friday race card, but is expecting to resume racing on Saturday.
Also canceling its Friday racing programs are Penn National, Charles Town and Laurel Park
