Davie dog to compete in Westminster “Best in Show”

A Davie-based miniature pinscher will be competing for “Best in Show” honors Tuesday night at the prestigious 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.

Classy, whose breed name is GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, won the Toy Group Monday night, earning a spot in the final competition.

Classy is owned by Leah Monte and Armando Angelbello, who also trains and shows the dog.

“Winning at Westminster is a dream of every breeder and owner,” an excited Angelbello said after the victory. The event is being televised on CNBC.

Classy wasn’t the only South Florida canine showing well at the nation’s premier dog show.

An Anatolian Shepherd Dog, owned by D Michael Blitz of Miami, won the “Best of Breed” title. Ch Horizon’s Banshee At Chevaliers Du Roland, will now compete in the best of group competition Tuesday night and has a chance at being in the “Best of Show. “

A Miami-based Rhodesian Ridgeback with a Hollywood name - Grand Champion Raquel Welch of Malabo APD, won the “Best of Breed” competition Monday.

Hours later, Brazilian-born Raquel competed valiantly in the televised Hound Group competition, but lost to a bloodhound named Nathan, who advanced.
