Bratislava, Slovak Republic (SportsNetwork.com) - Angelique Kerber lifted Germany into the semifinals of the Fed Cup with a straight-set win over Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova in the first reverse singles match Sunday.

Kerber earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory on Sunday to give Germany an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five tie. The second reverse singles match was not played and Slovakia salvaged a point with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 doubles triumph from the team of Jana Cepelova and Magdalena Rybarikova over Julia Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenfeld.

Germany won a World Group Fed Cup tie for the first time since a 2002 first- round triumph over Russia and will play in the semifinals for the first time since falling to Spain in 1995.

The two-time champion Germans last won the Fed Cup title in 1992 behind Steffi Graf and Anke Huber. They will visit Australia in the April semifinals. The Aussies advanced past Russia this weekend.

Kerber won both of her singles matches this weekend, notching a straight-set triumph over Daniela Hantuchova on Saturday. Andrea Petkovic beat Cibulkova in the first match Saturday.

These two nations had split two previous meetings, with the Slovaks winning the last one 11 years ago in Germany.
