Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran jockey Martin Pedroza suffered a broken leg Friday afternoon when he was unseated in a starting gate mishap for the eighth race.

Pedroza fractured his left leg aboard Sargentina.

"Doctors said it was a straight break; he was lucky," said Pedroza's agent Richie Silverstein.

The 48-year-old jockey will be away from the races for several weeks. He was set to ride 3-1 second pick Blueskiesnrainbows in Saturday's San Antonio Stakes versus two-time defending winner Game On Dude.
