Area 31: Brunch, Bloody Mary’s and a bold view

A

The sweeping city views at Area 31, perched on the 16th floor of downtown’s Epic Hotel (950 Brickell Bay Drive, Miami), are certainly enough to take your breath away. But satisfying Sunday morning hunger and quenching weekend thirst is a different game altogether. Thankfully, chef Wolfgang Birk (formerly of Casa Casuarina) and head bartender Dean Feddaoui know how to play it well. Their newly launched brunch service goes beyond the usual to include a menu of four Bloody Mary variations (including one made with beets!), suckling pig with creamy polenta (the 305’s porcine answer to Southern shrimp-and-grits) and a decidedly South Florida take on eggs Benedict, which features seared flounder instead of the classic Canadian bacon affair. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
