Coconut Grove is where we live, and we love the place and the name — leave it alone. What we need are better businesses, not crappy expensive boutiques and bad restaurants — and do we really need belly dancing in a Greek restaurant?
Many of us go to Coral Gables for food and entertainment because there one can see better films, eat better and cheaper food, get better service, find good bread and croissants, have a decent breakfast or a fine sandwich and go to a bookstore that is not stuck in the back of town because rent is outrageous.
The Grove should have high-quality boutiques and tea and coffee houses. The bookstore should be able to return to the center of Cocowalk. The restaurant scene has improved a bit, especially on Commodore Plaza, and people do flock to these establishments. We need more serious business people and lower — much lower — rents.
