Former Peruvian President Alan Garcia will give a lecture on economic and political trends in the hemisphere at 4 p.m. Monday at Florida International Universitys Modesto Madique Campus. The free event is open to the public, but all seats have been filled.
Garcia, who served as Perus president from 1985 to 1990 and again from 2006 to 2011, is a lawyer, sociologist and the leader of the Peruvian Apra Party. He is director of the Government Institute at the Universidad de San Martín de Porres.
Garcia is speaking in the Graham Center Ballrooms, 11200 SW Eighth St. The event will take place in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English.
He is being hosted by the universitys Latin American and Caribbean Center. After the lecture, Garcia will take questions from the audience on challenges facing the region, the trials of governance and security and how these impact the regions current investment climate.
