It was 150 years ago that President Abraham Lincoln sighed legislation creating the Yosemite Grant, which set aside park land in the Sierra Nevada for preservation and public use decades before the creation of the national park system. The anniversary date of the signing is June 30, but Yosemite National Park, nearby towns and other entities are sponsoring celebration events all year: art exhibits and workshops, hikes, a loggers jamboree, a film festival, stage productions, and other activities.
