As Winter Storm Leon brings freezing rain, sleet and snow from southeast Texas to the Gulf Coast, Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport reported delays and cancellations Tuesday afternoon.
Miami International saw 51 flights canceled and four delayed while Fort Lauderdale had 39 flights canceled and 47 delayed. Some of the delays are up to three-and-a-half hours long. Nationwide more than 3,000 flights were canceled.
The airlines affected are American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta Airlines, and US Airways. Travelers can expect delays or cancellations when flying to or from Port-au-Prince, Norfolk, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, N.C., Charleston, S.C., Pensacola and New York’s JFK.
Airport authorities advise travelers to check with their airlines to see whether their flights are affected by the storm.
