Dania Beach man accused of shooting neighbor's pit bull

A Broward man is accused of shooting his neighbor's pit bull and dumping it near a trash bin.

The 1 year-old dog, Diesel, was still breathing after the shooting, but eventually died, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Franklin Davis, 51, of Dania Beach was arrested Monday and charged with cruelty to animals and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He told deputies that he shot the dog Saturday night to protect his daughter. One of two shots struck the dog, according to BSO.

Investigators said that after shooting the pit bull, he loaded the dog into a car and dumped it in the 2300 block of Pershing Street in Hollywood.
