Miami man charged in sex assault; tried to get woman to forget with weed

Miami Herald Staff Report

A man who offered a woman a ride home from a Hialeah cafeteria and then sexually assaulted her for "several hours" has been arrested, Miami police said.

Julio Cordero struck up a conversation with the woman in the 2600 block of Palm Drive before driving her to his efficiency at 1392 NW 39th St. in Miami. He threatened to kill her if she screamed for help, police said.

Once inside the home, Cordero pulled two knives and tied the woman's hands, according to the arrest report. Then he sexually assaulted and robbed her, police said. He then forced the woman to smoke marijuana and drink alcohol to "forget the details" of the attack, according to the report.

The woman eventually called police after midnight Sunday.

Cordero, 43, is charged with false imprisonment, armed sexual battery and possession of marijuana and cocaine.
