Motorcyclist killed on Tamiami Trail avoiding collision

A motorcyclist was killed early Sunday in West Miami-Dade after he was thrown from his bike avoiding one vehicle and was struck by another on Tamiami Trail.

Killed was Cristobal Fuentes, 40, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Sunday morning accident shut down the trail at Southwest 240th Avenue for several hours.

The accident occurred as Susan Greenberg, 56, was westbound in a pickup truck, headed into Gator Park.

Fuentes was coming in the opposite direction on trail, FHP said. When Greenberg went to turn into Gator Park, Fuentes was forced to swerve to the left to avoid her truck.

The FHP said when he swerved, Fuentes lost control of his motorcyle which hit Greenberg’s truck.

On impact, Fuentes was thrown from his bike.

Fuentes was then run over by a car traveling behind Greenberg. Driver Juan Casas, 61, said he was unable to stop in time.

Fuentes was transported to Kendall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
