Ovechkin to miss second consecutive game

The Sports Network

Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin will miss his second consecutive game on Friday night against the New Jersey Devils.

Ovechkin, who sat out Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators with an undisclosed lower-body injury, was unable to finish the team's morning skate at Prudential Center on Friday.

"He went out onto the ice, and then came off," said Capitals coach Adam Oates after the morning skate. "I still haven't found out why he went out so fast. I don't know if it was because it was more serious than he thought or didn't think it was healing."

Ovechkin's status going forward now seems to be in doubt.

This will be the fourth time this season the Capitals have played without Ovechkin. He also sat out two games in early November with a right shoulder injury.

The 28-year-old Ovechkin has 35 goals and 14 assists in 47 games this season.
