I find some poetic justice in Miami Beach’s quandary regarding a new convention center, in light of the fact that proposals to extend light rail to Miami Beach have been consistently shot down.
So the horrific traffic and ridiculously difficult parking continue their chokeholds on the city, and the decisions about how to make it more visitor-friendly continue to be agonizing, polarizing and, inevitably, costly.
I would go to Miami Beach more often — and thus spend more money there — if it weren’t such a daunting and exhausting proposition. I’ll bet many of my fellow mainland residents, as well as more than a few business travelers, would agree.
