I congratulate Florida Atlantic University’s board of trustees for selecting an academic professional as its president, rejecting pressure to appoint a politico.
An academic institution is as good as the talent it attracts, its faculty and its students. The selection of an academic leader can only help FAU attract the best academics and students.
After more than 25 years of associating with academics through my service on the University of Florida’s Foundation Board, as well as serving in a leadership capacity for many years, I am convinced that public institutions of higher education must be insulated from political influence as much as possible. It is critical for attracting top academic talent as well as for encouraging financial support form donors. FAU’s board of trustees got it right.
