Academy Bus takes over Horizon in South Florida

 

The country’s largest privately-owned bus company is expanding into South Florida by purchasing Horizon Coach Lines.

Academy Bus, based in Hoboken, N.J., announced the purchase Monday for an undisclosed price. The company said the acquisition makes Academy the largest private bus operator in the state. Academy will retain Horizon’s Miami terminal is at 3095 NW 110th St.

The company expects to have employ 200 workers in the Miami area, with a fleet of 140 buses. There will be two other terminals to service Florida: one in Jacksonville, and one in West Palm Beach, Academy said. Academy and Horizon offer private charters for tour groups, schools, hotels, companies and other businesses.
