A wooden dock supporting about 40 people attending a wake partially collapsed Saturday afternoon, sending half of them into the water, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the incident at a condominium at 9341 East Bay Harbor Drive in Bay Harbor Islands.

“About 20 fell in when it collapsed,’’ Lt. Arnold Piedrahita, a spokesman for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said. “They were able to get out before any rescue workers arrived.’’

Brad Miller, a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue battallion chief, said about 20 to 25 feet of the approximately 100-foot-long structure gave way.

Authorities were called about the incident at 3:06 p.m. Saturday.

Miller said those on the dock “heard a crack and it fell.”
