Charlottesville, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Harris scored a game-high 18 points as the Virginia Cavaliers captured a 78-66 win over the Florida State Seminoles in Atlantic Coast Conference action at John Paul Jones Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cavaliers (12-5, 3-1 ACC) were Malcolm Brogdon with 16 points, to go along with six assists and four steals, followed by Mike Tobey and Justin Anderson with 13 and 10 points, respectively. With the victory Virginia has now won four of the last five outings.
The Seminoles (12-4, 3-1) were paced by Okaro White and Aaron Thomas with 15 points apiece, while Devon Bookert pitched in with 12 as he knocked down 3- of-4 shots behind the 3-point line for a squad that saw a three-game win streak come to an end.
Bookert converted a 3-pointer to get the game started for FSU, but from there the meeting belonged to the Cavs as they ripped off a 14-0 scoring run to take control and an eventual 45-26 advantage at the break. The Seminoles converted only nine field goals in the first half, compared to the hosts who were 16-of-29 from the floor and 5-of-6 beyond the arc in the period.
In the second half Virginia extended the lead to 21 points in the opening minutes, but the visitors closed the gap somewhat before suffering the double- digit setback.
Virginia, which also won the first meeting of the season between the teams two weeks ago by a score of 62-50 in Tallahassee, forced 18 turnovers and generated 26 points from those miscues.
