Flyers ink Mason to multi-year extension

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The revolving door in the Philadelphia Flyers' crease appears to have stopped moving as the club signed goaltender Steve Mason to a multi-year contract extension.

The deal announced by the club on Saturday will reportedly pay Mason $12.3 million over three years. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Mason, 25, has compiled a 19-11-5 record with a 2.48 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in his first full season with the Flyers. Philadelphia acquired the Ontario native from Columbus on April 3 last season.

The former Calder Trophy winner is 119-112-32 with 20 shutouts, a 2.82 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 275 career games with the Blue Jackets and Flyers.

Stability is not a word used to describe Philadelphia's recent goaltending history. The team bought out the final seven years of the deal Ilya Bryzgalov signed in 2011 after last season and dealt Sergei Bobrovsky, once viewed as a potential franchise netminder, to Columbus a year earlier. Bobrovsky is the reigning Vezina Trophy winner.
