Guards set to shine in girls’ basketball showcase

Some of the state’s premier guards will take their turn orchestrating in the open court at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Girls’ Basketball Showcase at South Broward on Friday and Saturday.

Sagemont’s Kelsey Marshall, South Broward’s Alexis Brito, Boyd Anderson’s Natora Landers, Miami Country Day’s Danielle Minott, Norland’s Danneal Ford, Dillard’s Jamesha Paul and Cardinal Gibbons’ Diamond Williams have all shown the ability to take over games.

Apopka Wekiva High will get its shot at slowing down Landers when it face the Cobras on Friday at 5. Ford leads the Vikings (10-6) against Marshall and the Lions (11-5) at 6:30, while four-time defending Class 5A state champion Dillard (15-4, No. 4 in 5A) and Paul face Viera (15-3) at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule is highlighted by Class 3A No. 1 Country Day (15-2) and the Syracuse signee Minott against Class 8A No. 7 Miami Ferguson (18-2) at 5:30. The Brito-led Bulldogs and Viera close out the Showcase at 8:30 p.m.
