Still rooting for the Dolphins

Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland was Bill Parcells’ sock puppet. As long as Parcells’ hand was in the sock, everything was OK. But then “the hand” left. So what did Steve Ross do? He hired the empty puppet! The damage that Ireland caused will take years to repair.

However, what I did like about this team is that they played hard, and they are quality guys. But the talent just was not there. So let’s get to work! Miami is a storied franchise. I rooted for them for the 28 years I lived in Miami and will continue to root for them despite relocating to Saints territory.

The Americans with Disabilities Act opened doors

July 26 marked the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark law passed in 1990 that for the first time in our history created nationwide standards for combating discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, telecommunications relay services and government activities.

  • Clean energy jobs

In the discussion of how to combat climate change it is important to make sure the voices of working families are included. This is especially true right here in South Florida, ground zero for the impact of climate change. If Gov. Rick Scott and our other elected leaders ignore the problem, the consequences of rising sea levels, extreme heat events, and decreased water availability will be a burden passed along to working families.

  • Lure of free money

If Joy-Ann Reid were honest, she would tell folks that the ACA was written by Democrats specifically to prevent people who enroll in the federal exchange from receiving subsidies, as subsidies would be available only in the state run exchanges. The Democrats thought the lure of free money would encourage the states to set up their own exchanges. This was no drafting error, as plainly seen by the wording of the act, which in several sections clearly stated that subsidies would be for state exchanges only. Democrats wrote and passed this bill, apparently without reading it.
