Late-night road shutdowns on I-395 lead to detours

MacArthur Causeway/I-395 will be a place to avoid Thursday night as workers install signage for the new PortMiami tunnel.

On Thursday, there will be closures on the I-395/MacArthur Causeway bridge. One lane will close at 10 p.m. and a full closure of MacArthur Causeway bridge will begin at 1 a.m. and last until 5 a.m. Drivers can get to the beach by exiting at the Biscayne Boulevard ramp, heading north to I-195 Julia Tuttle Causeway and then heading east.

Liz Fernandez, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Transportation, said the closures are only expected to last one night each unless there is bad weather.

The $1.2 billion PortMiami tunnel, which is scheduled to open to traffic in May, will provide direct access between the seaport, I-395 and I-95.

The closures are necessary to install the sign structure and panels, Fernandez said.
