Michael Bay apologizes for onstage gaffe

Improv isn’t Michael Bay’s strong suit. During an interview at an electronics and technology trade show in Vegas, he was asked a fairly basic question, “How do you come up with such unbelievable ideas?” The part-time local smacked his lips, looked around and began: “Hollywood is a place that creates a viewer escape...” Then he floundered, searching for the teleprompter. “I try to...ugh!... The tape is all off. I’ll just wing this.” But no winging was happening, so Bay walked off the stage. Awkward! Later, the Transformers director released a statement: “Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES,” Bay posted on his website. “I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down — then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing.”

Hopefully, the appearance-fee check is still in the mail.

No rose

Too bad, so sad. We won’t be seeing any more of local beauty Christine Llano on The Bachelor. Our guy decided to oust her in the first round of eliminations Monday night. We’re not too worried about Llano, who made an impressive limo entrance by bringing Juan Pablo Galavis a cute bracelet that spelled out his daughter Camila’s name. The FIU grad probably has plenty of chances to meet guys at her job as an “office support specialist” at Miami-Dade Police Department.

That’s OK: Galavis has another South Floridian to cozy up to, Victoria Lima, a legal assistant based in Boca Raton who is originally from Brazil.

Lean & mean

Gym rats, here’s a way to make your resolutions a reality: Celebrity go-to gym Barry’s Bootcamp is opening in Miami Beach at 1835 Purdy Avenue on Saturday. Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff has said of the workout phenomenon for both men and women: “The instructor screams at you for an hour and you come out soaking wet.” Leading the studio is high-intensity trainer Derek DeGrazio, who has whipped both Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian into shape with a combo of strength training and cardio intervals (i.e., sprinting then slowing down).

Live with Gabrielle

So what went down when Dwyane Wade proposed last month to his lady love Gabrielle Union? The Being Mary Jane star explained on Live with Kelly and Michael Tuesday that she and “D” were out having a family Saturday brunch and then headed to the basketball star’s house that’s under construction. At the site, Wade’s two sons (plus the nephew he has legal guardianship of) put up signs that read, “Nicky, Will you marry us?” Nicky is Union’s character in the 2004 Breakin’ All the Rules, so that may be a pet name. Union relayed she thought it was a joke until Wade got down on bended knee on her yoga block (didn’t want to get his knees dirty on the concrete).

Ripa couldn’t believe the size of the actress’ “impressive” 8 1/2 carat solitaire ring. “It’s not just large and round. It’s got height,” said Ripa.

“I asked for tube socks, and this is what I got,” quipped Union.

No mention of Wade’s new baby Xavier with former mistress Aja Metoyer. Phew.
