Re the Dec. 26 letter Stand against Castros: While I support the demand for human rights in Cuba, I believe that a handshake in international diplomacy, by itself, suggests neither friendship nor enmity.
To deplore the lack of international support for the “Cuban Mandelas” is to overlook the fact that Nelson Mandela, especially, and F.W. de Klerk saved a civilization that could no longer sustain itself by unspeakable violence. The more we rekindle our own humanity, the more we are likely to see ourselves in the larger family of nations.
