Hurray for Jorge Perez

To add to Fred Grimm’s excellent summary of the year’s heroes, here’s another reason to praise Jorge Perez: his decision to withdraw from the proposed Flagstone project that called for the monstrous development on Watson Island. His decision was an important contribution to our future.

Perez knew hat the project would cause a serious traffic problem for South Beach, endangering its regional economic contribution by discouraging travel between the Beach and the American Airlines arena, the Arsht Center and Museum Park.

He also knew of the environmental risks, the aesthetic damage of the beauty of the Biscayne Bay and the entire image of Biscayne Basin, the horrors of a major shopping mall with a single entrance and exit, and many other problems.

I thank Perez for putting the community ahead of a personal project.

As LeBron leaves, keep it classy Miami

Alright, so James is leaving. We will survive, really. We will miss him for sure.

  • Thanks, LeBron

Downtown Miami’s resurgence was well under way before The Big 3 arrived, gained momentum alongside four consecutive championship runs and won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

  • Missing him LeBron

Although devastated by his decision to leave us, I am immensely grateful to LeBron James for what he gave us: the best four years the Miami sports scene has ever experienced.
